It has been amazing to be back home and settled into our new life as a family of three. After enjoying every minute of our three weeks away, it’s s great to be home. We survived traveling to various hotels with a newborn, but it’s so much easier now that we are back home. Getting in to a routine and having everything set up where we need it has made our days so much easier. These are our top 10 items you need for a new baby.

Although babies don’t need much at first, there are some things that have made our days and nights easier as new parents. After traveling for so long and having to move to so many different places, it was wonderful to finally be stationary. We didn’t travel with most of these items, and really used them when we got home.
To me, a lot of these things are MUST HAVES and totally made our lives easier. I love looking at what other mom’s consider their top items, because they are all so different but are all great ideas. For us, these 10 items are things I am so glad we had for Baby B.
1. Graco Duetconnect swing and bouncer
This product is two in one! The bouncer comes off of the swing, and you can easily take it around the house. Then it connects right back to save space. The bouncer also vibrates (it’s battery powered). The swing plugs in to the wall, which is great because we never had to worry about those batteries. It has various speeds and a sound machine built in. The swing is pretty powerful on the highest level, but has been great as Baby B grows to keep her moving. This has been a life saver whenever we needed to put her down or let her relax for a while on her own. Baby B loves it!
2. Reverse zip pajamas
These are my favorite pajamas for a baby ever. I love them because they are soft, but also because they have a reverse zipper. In the middle of the night, it is so much easier to do a quick diaper change with this zipper. Especially when Baby B was in the Love to Dream Swaddle (below), the pajamas and swaddle would zip up. Also, right now at Target, they are 3 for $12.99. That is a great deal!
3. Avent Bottle Warmer
I always thought a bottle warmer was useless and a waste of money. But, then we started filling bottles and keeping them in the fridge, so needed a way to warm them up, at least back to room temperature. When we traveled to get Baby B, we were using the two ounce premixed formula, so she would just drink it room temperature. That was super easy, but then we got home and she started drinking from the large containers that had to be kept cold. My mom sent us this bottle warmer and now we couldn’t live without it. It heats bottles up pretty fast (even though time stands still when you have a screaming, hungry baby) and has a warm setting for when baby isn’t quite ready for it.
4. dirty diaper bags
You may be thinking, why not just use grocery bags? Because grocery bags do not keep the smell out like these do. We had a diaper genie before, and I hated it, so when Baby B was coming, I found these bags. They really do keep the smell out. I accidentally left a dirty diaper in one on the changing table then left for a long weekend. When I came back and saw that, I thought it would be bad. But, there was no smell at all! They are also great to keep in the diaper bag and the car.
5. Bloom bath flower
This bath flower is perfect for a baby sink bath. The petals move and fold so you can position your little one just right. It’s also very soft, but not too big or bulky. We found it much easier to wash (it washes really well in the washing mashing) and to store than the bulky plastic baby baths.
6. Cetaphil diaper cream
Baby B has always had sensitive skin, and even the sensitive wipes would cause her to have a diaper rash. We love this diaper cream. It’s hypo-allergenic and contains organic Calendula, which is very soothing. It doesn’t have a strong odor at all, like Desitin and the price is great.
7. moby wrap
This is also on my travel list, but I love it so much, I had to include it here too. Even now that we are home, I am still using the Moby almost every day. Whenever I need to get few things done around the house, I put Baby B in it and she loves it. It’s also so comfortable to wear and doesn’t bother my back like other carriers I have tried. Once you get used to wrapping it, it’s so easy. I was a little intimidated at first because I wanted to make sure I did it right, but there are a ton of YouTube videos from moms that provide a great demonstration.
8. gas drops and Tylenol
Go ahead and get some gas drops and Infant Tylenol. These are just good things to have on hand when you need them. Baby B was super gassy, so we asked her doctor what we could give her. Always check with your doctor before giving your baby gas drops or medicine of any kind. Our doctor told us we could give Baby B gas drops with every bottle, and this was at her one month appointment. We like the Little Remedies brand and although they are probably all the same, I think these work the best for Baby B.
9. Love to dream swaddle
This sleep sack is perfect for newborns. It fits tight but allows them to have their arms up by their head, which is how Baby B wanted to sleep. She hated traditional swaddles and the Velcro ones we tried. She wanted to sleep with her hands up, but would get startled. After we started using this every night, she slept for longer periods, even when she was just a few weeks old.
10. Carseat Stroller System
The Graco Modes Jogger Travel System is wonderful. It includes the stroller, car seat, and base. The stroller comes apart and you can attach the infant car seat to it, which makes it great for travel when baby is really little. I also love how you can turn the stroller to face you or face away. I think there are seven different ways to configure the stroller, so you have a ton of options. It’s a a little pricey, but we use it all the time and would definitely say it’s worth it.
There are so many more things I could add to the list, but these are definitely our favorites.
